That cutout allows you to drop the engine and trans straight down...without tilting or sliding the trans into the tub before raising the engine/trans ass'y up.
It makes the whole thing even faster and requires a lot less fussing.
It's particularly handy if you think you'll drop the motor at the track where you may not have enough hands, tools, or level ground.
