As for the flooring, I didn't feel like pulling up and replacing all 900 sq/ft. I just pulled up what was messed up. I surgically removed the last several boards ensuring the end-locks are retained. Once I weave four new ones in, the rest house down as you describe.
Here's what happens if you damage the end locks.
