If someone is far enough from the fire, watering down your roof might, (MIGHT), keep flying embers from igniting your house. If the fire catches up to you, there is absolutely nothing you can do but run for your life. Someone else who abandoned their car just told a news reporter that a police cruiser came by them and told them to get out of their cars if they wanted to live.
The wind strength is epic, a once-in-a-lifetime event. 50-60 mph winds blowing for 24 hours straight right now. There are at least two major fires burning, Palisades and Eaton in Altadena. When this is finally put out, the death toll and property damage figures will be hard to imagine. In the Palisades, houses in most parts start at around $5M and quickly go up from there. Hundreds if not thousands of homes have burned and the fires are both zero percent contained.
