I've visited Cali several times over the years mostly in the areas between Irvine and Santa Barbara or the San Fran/San Jose area. It's a beautiful place with in my experience ideal weather. I'd never thought about the fact that one of the primary factors in the yearly fires is exactly that ideal weather (sunny, warm, dry/super low humidity). We've had a couple of dry, drought summers, and the fires were everywhere all of the time, but I don't think we get the winds like you get there.
