We have friends who have done the Danube and the Rhine cruises. They are not highly active travelers and they felt it was the right mix of cruising and sightseeing. We tend to be more active but did a 5 day cruise on the Yangtze river from Wuhan to Chongqing through the Three Gorges Dam in 2007. An interesting variation in the middle of a 21 day tour of China but probably not our style. We saw a lot of barren countryside and a lot of coal barges.
There are different ways to see Europe with some being always on the go. The river cruises seem to be a more relaxed pace. For an organized tour, we like Gate 1 Classic Tours which are highly active, and you tend to walk 5-7 miles each day all with a local guide and see a lot.
