This has inspired me to get a portable generator for the house. One that’s just big enough to run essential items. We have hot water natural gas-fired radiator heat so it would not take much to run the water pump for the furnace. Enduring a power outage becomes much, much less stressful if one assesses the situation from the perspective of it being a short-term emergency. As a starting point, not even trying to maintain a normal lifestyle in an emergency situation is half the battle.
