I've seen a few videos that have started showing up on various locations around the net. One in particular of some palm trees near a McDonalds sign really show the impact of the wind.

It's hard to imagine how with a dry environment and that sort of wind, how anything could be done, regardless of the amount of planes, helicopters, etc.... It's pretty horrific to ponder.

I've seen here on the board over the years several comments about the possibility of preventative measures that could/should be performed. I'm sure no amount of preventative measures would completely stop this sort of thing, but I could see how it would be possible to reduce risk and or reduce impact.

I'm also sure that while a lot of these are likely natural, there are probably also some that are based on arson activity (clearly as some have been caught).

As previously stated, these sorts of catastrophic events are usually due to a combination factors that combine to make a perfect storm. And it would not surprise me, especially in an area with as many people as LA (more people means more evil/troubled/crazy/bad people), if there were people that take advantage of the chaos for their own gain.
