I think the key is keeping appreciation above expectation.
I expect the Chief Sandwicher to make me happy.
But my appreciation for her efforts is profound. My appreciation propels her and, as selfish and narcissistic as it sounds, validates her purpose. She wants to make me happy, so I help her.
I think some could call that love.
