There are tons of threads on this already and you'll get as many recommendations as there are posters to this forum - with no 'optimal' wheel/tire combo except the one you think will work the best.

Perhaps an initial thought? 17" max wheel diameter. I've tried 15, 16, 17, and 18's on my car.
15's are tough to find tires for. 16's are dwindling in option. 17's have a number of options, as to 18's. But, 18" wheels really create a narrow sidewall that makes for a harsh ride - track or street.
I run BBS e87's: 17x10 (rear) w/ 315/35-17 tires; 17x9 (front) w/ 255/40-17 tires.
