It is quite possible that the Mercedes-Benz vehicles you worked on did not have the original factory equipment batteries. It is unfortunately quite common for the expensive OEM AGM batteries to be replaced with the lowest cost alternatives (non-AGM lead-acid) by many service organizations and unscrupulous dealers trying to maximize their profit, and owners trying to save money.
I've heard "....you could pay a lot of a Mercedes (or other OEM brand) battery or save some money with this much cheaper one...", leaving out the option of an OEM equivalent aftermarket AGM battery which is the option I chose when I did it myself.
