It would have been better except we waited until it was the grandsons summer break, so even if it's not hot when you start, it's scorchin' by the time you finish, and a 6yo gets bored sitting in a boat for 4 hours in the sun. I'd love to be in a kayak that I assume is smaller and takes less effort than a decently big canoe.

There's a thing in this area of Texas. Lots of little churches that were built by the Czechs that settled the area. They didn't have money for fancy churches like they were used to in Europe, so they painted the inside of the churches. There's a "painted churches" tour that you can take here that tours around something like 10 little churches. They are very similar to what you show there.
