I sold Volvos in 9 of the recent years, including when the XC40 came out. I had an XC40 Recharge for 9 months until it got totaled. I think they're great cars, but their Achilles heel is some mechanical and a lot of software issues. I used to tell customers that if Volvo was as reliable as Toyota, they'd own the world. So, my advice to them was to always be under warranty. More than necessary repairs are a fact of life with many brands. Accept it as part of the cost of owning that brand. The safety, seat comfort, user interface, and styling are the benefits. Pay the insurance and enjoy the product. Japanese cars don't generally have the personality, so in essence you pay for some personality. It's a trade-off.
