Wow! I hear about this stuff all of the time, but I'm pretty much never in a position to take advantage of it. I did once get a free multimeter (cheap brand, mid level) out of a place that I worked because they were throwing a bunch out that had been replaced with something better. That's as close as I think I've ever come to benefiting from that sort of deal.
