we use phase all the time, sin/cosin encoders (sin/cosin is basically phase), quadrature, system dynamics and controls, etc. its a well understood, non magical thing. and it works on every day devices all around you. quadrature encoders are extremely common on stepper motors etc.

everything is a conspiracy when you don't know how things work.
