The other big risk in the nursing home setting is C diff (ask your sister, she'll know what it is) Elderly who are put on broad spectrum antibiotics are also at a higher risk for C diff infection. The probiotics help maintain or rebuild a healthy gut microbiome (having nurses and a licensed dietician in the family makes me learn things I never really wanted to) The more I learn the more I become a germaphobe... I swear...
