Not since. The poor state of the education of American children is the reason the department of education was formed. It's also the reason the Head Start program was initiated 60 years ago.

Based on what I have read we had a top ranked education system prior to the formation of the DOE. We also spend more per capita than any other developed nation. So the government took something great and used our tax dollars to ruin it.

Also my kids go to Catholic school, if we could do it again we wouldn’t. It’s like public school but you’re allowed to say Christmas and go to church but they pay teachers even less than public schools and the kids have less academic opportunities.
