To give you guys a bit more confusion, according to the street legal regulations the 911 was called "SC" up to 1986, even with the 3.2 Carrera engine. Solution is due to the same chassis / tub from 1978-1986 remained unchanged with the 915 gearboxes. With the bigger G50 gearbox (and changed rear axle/spring tubes) the 911 transformed officially from "SC" to "911 Carrera" from 1987 onwards. See as follows in this german registration paper of a 1984 Carrera:



#1 = initial approval date
#2 = car type
#3 = trade/trademark id
#4 = engine displacement in ccm
#5 = engine power in kW at rpm

So don't wonder when you see a ROW 911 Carrera named as an 911 SC in the street registration paperworks. This only means that it's a 911 with a tub from MY 1978-1986 with a 915 gearbox... otoh I don't know whether the german street registration regulations will be 1:1 applied to other countries like the US ...
