You could tighten/clamp the HD clamps down until you dimpled/crimped the metal. Nothing was going to fall off that way. As a matter of fact, you could take the clamp off and pound it with a hammer and have a hard time getting it off. If you used the regular, cheaper clamps, they would break before you managed to get them that tight.
