Small dose of honestly here: Went for the 100th a few years back. Super happy I did but from a spectator standpoint it's not great.
The sheer # of people makes it a pain, human tide, uncomfortable most of the time, lines everywhere... Parking sold out early also and it's no joke, had to find alternate transportation.
Surprisingly not that much of the track is spectator accessible. I hear you can access the chicane on the main straight but never found a way (looked all day). 95% of crowds are between the porsches curves and the beginning of the straight, so all around the start line.. Lots of fencing, too many people, limited viewing..
Unlike IMSA no access to paddock unless you're special..
My recommendation ? Go see Sebring, Daytona, enjoy the US events approachability, go see Le mans IF you have a team badge / access to suites.. Or watch on TV, much better ! Do Go see Le mans
Classic in person however (now that is cool and less claustrophobic and way more access). On my bucket list is to one day buy an entry on a porsche team (something relatively slow like a 356) and take part in that..
