Around here, you gotta practically give them away when they need work. Have fun. I learned a lot about cars wrenching on my old MGBs. Seems their tendency to break forced me to learn how to work on cars.
I've had my eyes on a Mini Cooper (the old ones). I'm thinking hot engine, minilites, refreshed cosmetics. They're pretty cheap on Ebay.
