Update: March 17, 2025:
Overdue for a post on this thread. Here are some updates from the last few months. I have torn down the new to me Weber 3C IDAs, picked up a tool kit and a jack, picked up a Harbor Freight hydraulic table which has allowed me to finally get the engine and transmission off my cherry picker. I now have the 914-6 engine on the engine stand and being torn down to a long block (will be for sale soon). My wife and I and some friends caravaned down to Amelia Island last weekend for Werks Reunion, RADwood and the Amelia Concours show. Although I was initially disappointed that my car wasn't ready to go it was super inspiring to see so many meticulous G body cars. I am more motivated than ever to continue on this project. On the way home, I found some Recaros from a 1991 VW Jetta GLI on Facebook and picked them up in South Carolina. They are essentially LSBs in great condition. I was very excited to find them. Hopefully work and family commitments will slow down slightly so I can get this car on the road in the next couple months!
