I had a cat with kidney problems and had to give IV fluids, just saline, not fun but he responded very well to it. I just kept an eye on how hydrated he was by lifting his skin by his shoulder blade and see how fast it went back down, sometimes he could go a week or more without any added fluid other times a day or two. Not sure if you vet mentioned to warm up the IV bag in warm water and bring it closer to body temp first or not, I found that helped him tolerate the injection.
