2025 garden thread

What a season! Damn!
The weather sucked all winter and now, March 31 it still sucks.
You can tell how people feel about the future by watching how much of their own food they try to grow. This year it's like the pandemic years all over again. People are concerned about the future, if not panicking.
I started ordering garden seeds in February and it's like 2021 all over again. Many of the varieties I normally get were sold out by mid-February. I had to order from 4 different places to get what I wanted. Baby chicks are sold out everywhere. I may have scored some Barred Rocks - not my favorite variety, but in this environment you take what you can get.
The garlic that we planted in October died. I think it was the rapid freeze-thaw cycles we went through this winter.
The Helleborus that usually starts blooming in the snow in February tried to bloom, died back, and is now finally in bloom.
On the bright side, we had a few days that weren't cold and wet when I could replant the garlic and plant lettuce, salad onions, and beets. My San Marzano tomatoes have started sprouting under the grow lights, so yayyy!!

Helleborus, finally blooming in March.
