In doing the Griffiths AC update, his instructions mention unbolting the skid plate/sway bar bolts while on the ground - I didn't take it off that way, but found getting them back in was much easier with the car down... a bit harder to reach - but everything aligned better.
Had similar issues with tie rods.. very large set of channel locks and a tight grip got them started
was a lot of work though.
