Or better - if they weren't in uniform and her kids were in the house?
I know full well that if armed people were in my driveway, weapons drawn and shouting at me, my first instinct would not be to disarm myself in the hope they were actually police. I suspect my wife wouldn't do so either.
And no, I don't know what happened either.
I'm simply pointing out an alternative scenario where her actions might seem slightly more justifiable.

What a load of contrived nonsense. You can "what if?" till the cows come home.
Plain clothes officers, otherwise known as "detectives", would not be participating in the pursuit of a hit and run driver. There were several "officers" - plural - in her yard. Multiple units were responding. Sirens and everything. Helicopter overhead. So even on the absolutely most remote chance that one of the officers were plain clothes (and I'll guarantee you none of them were), the rest were all in uniform. And the sirens and helicopter...
And no, her children were not in the house. How about her disabled grandma, the one with Alzheimer's? Or her rescue dog from the pound?
You could go on and on and on ad nauseum with such nonsense. I feel the way I do about this after examining the facts, not mulling over such contrived b.s.
