One thing to mention and correct in my earlier comment …when I was fiddling are with my glove box removal for the door covering reattachment, I accidentally ‘grounded out’ the hot terminal on the body - shorted out fuse and didn’t realize it. So careful where or if you swap out those terminals and when reinserting the fixture, I had to remove glove box again to get at plunger.
But the only two terminals for the bulb end are connected on mine are used like the picture above.
It’s been a while since I figured out the glove box plunger switch wasn’t making contact, brushed clean and lubed the plunger did the trick. I think these have a tendency to be pushed in too far causing spring to stick besides tarnishing of the contact.
Unless the wiring is truly different from ‘77 to ‘88….I wonder why your wire is Red when others are Blue/Black. So it’s important to look under the dash at the radio connections to be sure what if any splice was made.
