The battery my ‘83 SC came with was working fine but it was a four years old and a traditional style battery that could potentially leak. In perusing various threads here I had seen numerous mentions of the Odyssey PC680 and in on thread a roughly equivalent AGM battery at Oreilly Auto parts the ETX20L.

I like the idea of a lightweight battery and I really like having more room for when I want to disconnect the battery. I stop at Oreilly on the way home this afternoon and they have the ETX20L and they also have a few ETX18L AGM batteries. The 18 is slightly larger than the 20 and has 340CCA but more interestingly they priced 50% off. Apparently it’s an odd size that isn’t selling and they are clearing them out…. Why shouldn’t I give this thing a try for $60?

Biggest hassle was that it doesn’t have post terminals like you would normally have for the battery to clamp on to. Necessity being the mother of invention I use a hacksaw and cut the posts off an extra old battery I have and drill them for the bolts that came with the new battery.

Tomorrow I will get around to making a battery hold down for it but the car fires right up.
