my understanding is that the front spoiler tries to prevent air that is hitting the front of the car from being deflected to under the car.
you can see how that could work with the '72 and the '73 spoilers with the bottom lip.
the '74 spoiler looks great - i have one on my car - and for sure it has to work but i don't see with my untrained eye how its design can help prevent deflected air from going under the car.
