Quick Sunday AM post while I wait to order my breakfast.
I had been putting off (properly) installing the license plate because I (of all people) was not stoked about punching holes in my bumper.
I made a bracket and didn’t like it.
I considered just stabbing the plate on the bumper w/o a bracket.
I didn’t like that either.
So I tabled the whole thing and yeeted (yote?) the plate into the back window while I mulled it over.
Well Ruchlos is officially <5 weeks away, and that forced my hand. So I did some shopping, made some choices, and spent the money.
Yesterday, with new parts in-hand, I headed out to the garage to make the car legal.
I applied copious amounts of masking tape, drew all over it, and then punched two holes in the bumper.
I peeled off the tape, offered up the bracket, and stuck in the Kelly-side screw.
The Chris-side screw resisted.
Garbage-metal screw broke in a fiberglass bumper with a pilot hole.
(I am become Death…Destroyer of screws.)
So I masked the surrounding area ahead of the impending excision procedure.
Some drilling, bandfile-ing, some carbide burring, and a heap of swearing later, the offending screw was removed. But despite all reasonable efforts, the screw hole was not the original shape, nor in its original location. I fettled and tried several screws and eventually got the plate on straight. (enough)
I then spent the next 2-2.5 hours removing the low-mount third brake light, extending and re-routing the harness therefore, and then installing the high-mount third brake light.
If my oil is delivered today, I’ll try to get out there and change the oil and start final prep for RR5.
