I live in a mountain valley east and south of the airport... other side of the mountains in the picture, we have osprey, eagles and seemingly every other flavor of raptor in the valley. Before I moved id get stooped by an American kestrel every time i went to the garden, I called her mad Maxine, she got so close to my noggin, that every time i could hear the whistle of air through the feathers.
The airport is on the edge of a massive waterfowl area, this just happens to be the first time I've seen one on this side of the mountains.
