I did the full two day Porsche Driving Experience at Barber Motorsport track in Birmingham, AL.

Most of the time we drove a 450+ HP 911 GTS. We also had seat time in a Cayman GTS, and Tycan Turbos S and even one session in the 911 Turbo S. The turbo S is just astonishingly fast, and I kept expecting to see the white stars flashing past like in Star Wars when they jump to hyperspace.

The 911 GTS we drove were started, sitting idling, AC on 60 (it was warm in Birmingham) and we did a 20 minute session, and moved to a different lesson, another group hopped in the same cars, and did their 20 minute session. The 911s ran all day, and never had one issue except needing to be refueled. The were all amazing vehicles. I loved the GTS, and and the PDK is astonishing and faster to leave it in full auto then try to shift it yourself. Not one of the instructors, with tens of thousands of laps can beat the PDK left in auto. I felt the stability control help me make a corner I went into too hot. Just astonishing tech.

Then 3 days later I drove my 200 HP, 100% analog antique 85 911. I turned off the AC compressor but ran the AC fans and fresh air fans to help keep me cool. 30 minute sessions, no issues at all. It was a LOT slower, but twice the fun, as it was all me driving the car, no computers involved.

I then loaded it up with all the stuff needed for myself and my wife, and drove it home.

The day I can't get in and out on my old 911 easily, I might think of a newer Porsche. I will fight for the right to party behind the wheel of my antique. After 30 years of ownership, I am very bonded to it.
