My mom had a stand mixer, but there was no 50Hz/60Hz switch. Dad wasn't sure that the frequency would impact the motor so they brought it over. I don't know what happened exactly because I was 8, but I do remember that they let the smoke out and mom got a new mixer.
I had no idea that the power was different North/South though. That seems really odd.
