Funny, I was going to start a thread about a similar visitor that showed up yesterday. We have a bluebird house on a hickory tree in the back yard and I saw something in it and upon investigating, I found that our visitor was a gray rat snake. We had bluebirds in the house about a month ago so, no birds were living in the house at this time.
I did witness two bluebirds checking out the house and so I went out and started tapping on the side of the house with a small rake to try to persuade the snake to leave. It must've worked because about five minutes after doing that, I saw the snake come out of the house and go down the tree. I gently guided the snake toward the woods but it went into a brush pile I had in my fire pit. So far, I haven't seen it around so hopefully it went to the woods.
