Boston was not going to make the playoffs this year and they have delayed a rebuild for a few years. They needed cap space and fresh blood for a future. Both the Bruins and March said they wanted to make a deal. Initially there was a problem with the number of years in the new contract but ultimately it came down to money. The Bruins did a
very honorable thing by trading March (a very valuable player) to a team in their own division (you don't do that) who had a shot at the Cup this year. They got less than they could have if they shipped him off to a third rate team in another conference. He is now got a real chance at hoisting the cup again in the next 1.5 weeks.
