Man, what a cruiser those were with the huge pedals and the overall feeling of comfort and style...they were like a warm blanket.
My Pops had a 49 Olds 88 with shaved heads, hot ignition and cam when he was in his early 20s before he joined the Navy. He’s told me some great street racing stories. Has said that he was never beaten off the line or in the quarter but, the Buicks of the day would eventually overtake him. But by that time he’d just slow down and then let them pass.👍🏻😎. Evidently my grandmother sold the car while he was stationed on Guam. He still to this day complains about it,,

Tried to get him to buy an unmolested original unrestored ‘49 that I located in San Jose. I even inspected and drove the car,,, Couldn’t get him to pull the trigger. A fantasy of mine is to find one, modify it like he did using period parts and techniques so that I can experience the car as he did.
