MAC did you ever figure out what your issue was? My symptoms are currently exactly what you were experiencing. The 82 I bought sat for a long while so I did the usual drained gas, new fuel filter, and spark plugs. Car has finally started to run well after warmed up and I can cruise around town. The problem is with start up when cold, it sputters and almost sounds like it has a cam (idles ups dm down from 200-500 rpm) u til it finally settles somewhere around 950rpm.
I’ve cleaned a lot of mice from this car while I’ve been working on it and I’m surprised it’s been running as good as it finally is now. If I can figure out the cold start issue It’ll be a cruiser this summer. My thoughts are the thermo switch or CSV which sounds like a pretty annoying job but I’m up for it. Just need to trouble shoot correctly and I know what many might be thinking, have I tested the fuel pressure yet and unfortunately I haven’t (need to get the gauges).
