Most of the big insurance companies hire local law firms to help with accident claims and other insurance claims.
The law firm my son works for has a branch that represents two large insurance companies in the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area...they are busy, very busy.
Jack earned his courtroom chops representing the firms his first few years there...he now does criminal defense stuff.
The "settlement" factors are very straightforward in most cases...there is a vast body of knowledge and precedent for different types of accidents and injuries, especially automobile related, the insurance companies deal with....right down to the sex, age and body type of those injured.
The Actuaries at the insurance companies track everything.
There is also a ton of sources for "seeing" the accident in real time in addition to police reports, which Jack says the insurance companies hate: Cameras, phones, Waze, etc.
His advice? Doctor first and always. Do not (and I am not assuming you would) embellish the injury, pain and suffering....it is Charlie Brown's Teacher voice to everyone in court.
His last bit of advice: Get an offer based on your Doctor's visit. If you decide to seek additional recompense, hire a firm that can explain in real terms the probability of success, the real financial bottom line and the time sink you will face.
I wish you well.
