We decided to splice in some rear quarter panel sections. It could have gone either way, since this car was pretty rust free, we thought it would be cool to save as much original steel as possible.
This car had somewhat of a unique vision. We talked about maybe just putting a coat of primer on it and driving it that way so seeing some of the seams would add a "cool" factor, it's not metal finished to perfection. It's very clean, but it's not all finessed with a shrinking disc or anything. It's just welded, knocked the weld off with 3M 80 grit roloc and spent a few minutes bumping it around.
The quarter panels had a lot of little dents. I would say roughly 4 hours of bumping around, hammer, dolly, slapper, fussing with some PDR (paintless dent removal) tools and you could have it a lot closer.
