NGL, the more modern ones are centuries away from Tasters Choice. It works out that they're more expensive per cup ($ not time) than fresh but when in need... I keep a few in a travel survival kit for emergencies.
For bean, always fresh ground at the point of use. Jura superauto for my 3 espressos/morning or from the Roncillo (something) when we have guests that need that big carafe of drip. Grinding a pot's worth takes about as much time as filling the maker with water and grabbing a filter.
From beans also helps us easily work up a half-caf blend that mrs johnson needs to thread the sleep-vs-tweak razor edge.
