Although i had the same problem and it turned out to be the door check pin had worn and that was enough to cause a “snap” or clunk on open & close. So check the pin too.

I have a click in my drivers door after replacing the Stay. I see now the body bracket holes are worn and when the stay unloads, it jolts the pin in the hole. I’m planning on designing and making a fix to the immediate area around the pin.
