Well, did you go out and get yourself something to avoid the same fate in the future? I suppose you could just leave town and travel somewhere that still had electricity, water, food, etc.
But I never liked the idea myself of leaving home. I don't like being dependent on stuff I can't control - especially when it comes to comfort and convenience.
So I have a decent setup here and can just hunker down if need be.
They make a bunch of different kinds and sizes of generators these days. Nice to keep the fridge going - maybe some fans - and a window AC unit.....
