I was sitting on a surf board in Half Moon Bay on a particularly cloudy dark day, legs dangling in the water. I happened to look down and noticed I couldn't see my foot, or leg beneath my knee. I had this intense thought of a shark coming up from below and chomping my leg off, with no way of seeing it coming. A little while later a good wave came up so it ended well.
Saw some seals on the Cape over labor day weekend, they were a little scary too. Big and unpredictable in their natural environment came to mind.
