Ordinary People was released in 1980, it swept the Oscars in the spring of 1981. My mom's friend, Judy Guest, wrote the book and it was all a big deal around our house and Minneapolis in general at the time when Redford optioned it and made the film.

It came out better than anyone could have imagined, he was a genius as a director. He got the best performances of their lives from each and every actor, IMO. The casting of MTM was a stoke of brilliance. A friend who worked on the film told me at the time that Redford knew her and knew what a biotch she really was, still not sure if I believe that but she was incredible.
