Adding to this thread’s reverse light problems, and solutions!
1979 911SC (with a 78 engine). Got it less than a year ago and have been working several problems. Here, had no reverse lights. Shorted the switch and boom, light!
I was prepared for the worn pin issue described earlier in this thread. Bought 2- 5/32 drill bits and a reverse switch. Got the car up on jacks and removed the switch. NO PIN!
Since I had the drill bits, I used the measurements provided earlier and after a hour in the shed, made my own pin instead of waiting for a week plus costs.
Tested the old switch, it was good. Put it back in with my new pin. Reattached the wires, and voilà! LIGHTS!
Now the question-
The rubber stopper idea mentioned earlier didn’t work for me. Lost about 1/4 qt of tranny fluid. I removed the filler on the side of the case and it was dribbling out.
I have read that a full transmission should be at or below the filler. How can this be if I lost as much fluid as I did? Did they turn it on its side during the last rebuild and over fill? FWIW, although I have driven it yet it seems to shift easier during my light sw checks.
