Assuming this is a post zombie contagion scenario then I’d say you would want some variety of line of sight portable radios for local communications, with a powerful base station radio and a big ass antenna. Satellites would still be there, but with nobody to man the ground stations they would eventually go silent. Obviously cellular as well.

While I don’t worry about zombies, I do worry about how to reach loved ones in the event of a terrorist attack, EMP, or cyber attack that causes a widespread outage. Especially with a daughter going to college in Oklahoma.
