
The first practical loudspeaker was invented in 1915 by Peter Jensen and Edwin Pridham in Napa, California. Working in their Napa workshop, the two inventors developed the moving-coil, or "dynamic," loudspeaker that would become the foundation for the Magnavox company
The workshop is actually a smallish house on F street, just around the corner from my house. People in Napa had never heard amplified music and they thought it was angels singing. These two guys knew they were on to something and set up a bigger shop in Oakland and that's how Magnavox got started
