Good to see this making the rounds again.
I have told my wife if I am in the car, do not text me. The message will not be read until I stop somewhere. I will answer the phone if road and traffic conditions allow.
I have mentioned years ago one of my nieces was involved in research regarding brain activity while communicating with a person on the phone. They determined the part of the brain which does the "defensive driving" activities is the same part which gets pre-empted to make up for the lack of visual clues from the person on the other end of the conversation. Their research showed that the amount of time required for your brain to switch activities is identical to mild imparement from alcohol.
