Never heard of it here either and I'm 72, so it was right in my teen years.
Then again, in MI, we had no training or education in case of nuclear attack.
The only training was for in case of a tornado hitting us and while I was in 4th grade, one went right through the school grounds. We watched it from the school's basement windows.
