I've been looking at that mess for 3 days and I'm still not sure all that's wrong. To answer your question, a sub with 6 or less breakers does not require its own disconnect.
But I'm looking at the double tapped neutral line feed, what looks like a neutral and red on a ground bus, the lack of a wire box connector exiting the panel to the rear, why there are 2 neutrals and a hot red going into the small conduit at the bottom, and IDK what else.
That is a panel that I would not touch. Besides, the OP demonstrates an absolute lack of electrical knowledge with his 50 amp, 120v wire circuit that is to be divided up in another sub downline.
People just don't do that.
