For my 1960 VW bug with the mighty 36 flywheel HP when new, 0 to 60 in 72 seconds (really!) I bought a set of 4 recaps, little 14 inch skinny tires, a set of four recap tires mounted and balanced, tax and out the door price was $28.00 That would have been in 1970. Top speed of 60 MPH on level ground performance. If there was any head wind, 60 was impossible.
Dad gave me an interest free $600 loan, I paid him back, but I had to pay for 100% of all operational costs, except insurance.
